Swerving Spaceships

What do I need?

This game is part of the Naivigation universe. It means you need two things to play this game.

  • The Core Set from Naivigation (which you need for all games).
  • And the specific material for this game. (“Download” > Core Set.)

Print and cut it, read the short playful rules, and you can play!

Playful Rules? It means you can press a button to get random examples of turns and setup, which is far more useful (and fun) than reading some text! I’ve been creating such rules for years now to great success.

Want more? You can also generate your own material right on this website, to suit your specific needs.

Background

This version is now the recommended “first version” because of its simplicity. Space is free! You can move anywhere, it has lots of empty space, and rockets can’t do anything besides fly forward. That made this version the one that introduces new players to Naivigation.

But it wasn’t the first I made. That was the car-based version, which I invented when I was barely an adult. That first “prototype”, however flawed it was, helped me reach this much better version of the idea that you can enjoy now. Looking at the original idea with fresh eyes, now well into my twenties, immediately revealed the thousands of ways to simplify and improve these ideas.

Similarly, back then I didn’t even have any website! I certainly hadn’t built my framework to generate material and playful rules on the fly, in your browser. Crucial tools that make this game easier to learn and create now.

This is an example of why it’s good to just make something and then iterate on it. Make mistakes, break stuff, then try again with the lessons learned. Before you know it, you end up with a large group of really simple and fun cooperative games about crashing every vehicle imaginable.

Support

You can hire me! Maybe you need a special board game or video game for a birthday or educational purpose? I'm also open to inquiries about physically publishing my games. I am a registered freelance artist from the Netherlands and you can contact me professionally through my portfolio.

If unsure, visit my Online Store. It contains everything I ever made. Though it focuses on playful education and activities for children/family, first and foremost.

Another great way to support me is to simply let me know what you think! Mail me at harmonize@pandaqi.com with any feedback.

Alternatives would be to buy my paid work (a win-win situation!) or to donate through the most popular channels (see buttons below).
